Solar hot water company, EcoSmart, is encouraging homeowners in New South Wales to install a solar hot water heater and take advantage of the current national and state residential rebate programs – delivering both cost and environmental benefits.
Mr Romano Bolzon, National Business Manager for EcoSmart Hot Water said, “With the three rebates in NSW overlapping, it is much more affordable to be green. There is a short window of opportunity to get these three combined rebates, which see the purchase of a solar hot water system cost almost the same as a normal electric hot water system. If homeowners act now, there is virtually no additional cost to save tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as save
themselves money in the long term on energy bills.
“Homeowners should become environmentally smart and part of the solution, not the problem. This involves using these solar hot water rebates in order to make their homes more energy efficient and ensure improved use of the environment’s resources every year. Taking advantage of these rebates is an easy and inexpensive solution to our energy and environmental problems”.
Water heating is one of the most energy intensive activities in the home and is a large contributor to the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Solar water heaters have an edge over conventional water heating systems in their ability to save environmental degradation by reducing the need for fossil fuels and utilising energy from the sun – particularly in Australia, where there is an abundance of sunshine.
Mr Bolzon said “Upgrading an electric hot water system to a solar hot water system is a smart choice and the single biggest change a household can make to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With the rebates now in place, homeowners will find it easier to purchase a solar water heater, as it will cost them substantially less than what they would have paid before the rebate”.
He added that the government rebates would help encourage homeowners to take action to try and reduce their carbon footprint.
“With the rebates in place, homeowners do not have to make sacrifices to go green, as the cost to switch is next to nothing. Homeowners should find that particularly attractive, but what is even more attractive is the savings that this change can make towards carbon emissions”, said Mr Bolzon.
Over one third of greenhouse gas emissions from the home is attributed to water heating, and is equivalent to around three tonnes per year. Electric water heaters are responsible for a serious share of these greenhouse gas emissions, and this can be avoided with the uptake of solar water heaters.
“Each household has an environmental responsibility to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Homeowners need to help avert the dangers of climate change caused from the unnecessary burning of coal and implementing cleaner and renewable energy sources for high energy-consuming activities in the house, such as water heating”, said Mr Bolzon.
Utilizing the world’s latest solar technology, the gas or electrically boosted solar water heater from EcoSmart, produces just 40 per cent of the eight tonnes of greenhouse gases currently produced each year by traditional electric water heaters in households.
The EcoSmartTM hot water system employs patented HotLogicTM processor technology, which constantly searches for, and switches to the most cost effective, energy source available. The system distinguishes itself from traditional solar hot water systems by doing away with the unsightly roof tank, which allows for the tank to be situated beside the house, in a safer and more aesthetically pleasing position.
